Congo is a new country, only recently having opened for tourism, and is a dream destination for lovers of “faraway suns” and deserted beaches, in particular those of Pointe-Noire, the beautiful economic capital at the seaside, Pointe-Indienne, Mvassa, amongst others. Tourists attracted by the sport fishing can test their skills against giant fish like the Tarpon, which can weigh over 100 kg, and the Tigerfish in the Atlantic Ocean or the river.

From Brazzaville, the political capital, aboard massive boat-trains, we can follow the Congo and Oubangui rivers all the way to Central African Republic. This is an unforgettable cruise taken by no less than Joseph Conrad, André Gide and Albert Moravia. Like today's travellers, they came across fishing villages, hippo herds, crocodiles and countless water birds living on the islets and in the forest. For those who prefer to in Brazzaville, there's dancing to the vibrant Zaire-Congo “soukouss” beat, or meeting talented authors whose works have been published or produced as plays in France: Sony Labou Tansi, Sylvain Bemba, Guy Menga, Alain Mabanckou…
